I need to start selling to mainstream magazines. This is a market I keep meaning to tap, but haven’t out of sheer laziness LOL. No, more like resistance to forcing myself to write a certain way, go through all the pitching and what-not. But some mags pay $1,000 an article (or more!), so seriously I’m gonna crack this nut this year. Some not-so mainstream mags pay ok too, I sold a few pieces to some now-defunct lit alt-type mags for $2-500 dollars and had some contract writing work a while back that paid really well. This is another stream of income I could sorely use, let me get on this.

Featured In N.E.E.T Magazine
I was featured in N.E.E.T Magazine! for Earthy Style. Pretty cool. Check it out, page 99:

Did You Read Omni Magazine?
Do you remember Omni Magazine? It was published from 1978-1995. I was such a huge fan of the magazine and even had a subscription for a short time in my teens. There were so many great short sci-fi stories in there as well as tech news, it was awesome. From Wikipedia:
OMNI was a magazine that contained articles on science fact and short works of science fiction. The first issue was published in October 1978, the last in Winter 1995, with an internet version lasting until 1998. Bob Guccione described the magazine in its first issue as “an original if not controversial mixture of science fact, fiction, fantasy and the paranormal.”

I was tooling around the net looking for Omni info because I want to buy some old copies. Here are some interesting Omni-related sites:

Intellectual Property
I was flipping through Inc. Magazine’s May issue at the library and came across a very interesting article about tapping your company’s intellectual property. This about made my head explode, because I know I’m guilty of it:
Sherman likes to quote Baruch Lev, a professor of accounting and finance at New York University’s Stern School of Business, who once calculated that approximately 85 percent of a company’s value resides in such intangibles. Unfortunately, many of those assets go unexploited because they are hard to inventory, manage, or even recognize. “What drives me nuts personally and professionally is to think about all that good stuff being wasted,” says Sherman, shaking his shaggy head. “All that innovation. All that intellectual capital. It’s just sitting there collecting strategic dust.”

I’m off to go ponder this article in-depth. What do you think?
