The Artist’s Way Week 1

I mentioned before that I am doing the Artist’s Way, an awesome book by Julia Cameron that helps one tap into creativity and lead a creative life. I first read it about 9 years ago, and it totally rocked my world and helped me to name and claim that I am a writer and to begin writing and selling my work. This year has been very tumultuous for me and I’ve been knocked off the creative path repeatedly by the many woeful events that have happened. These events include a mental breakdown, a miscarriage, a terrible bout of the flu, and my youngest son’s hospitalization.

Now that I feel ready, I decided to go through the Artist’s Way book once again to help me get my creativity going again. It’s a 12 week course but I have been stuck on week 1 for awhile. Today is the end of my 3rd week 1,  and I feel ready to go on. I have 1 more thing to do this week and that is to take myself on and ‘Artist Date’. Just go somewhere or do something fun that I like to do that is fulfilling and sustaining to my creativity. Just me, I’m not to take my husband or friends or kids. This is time just for me, to nurture my inner artist. I am a little nervous because I hardly ever go anywhere by myself, and I have a lot to do today both business and personal, so taking the time to do this seems a little selfish. Maybe it is, but I used to know that being a little selfish sometimes is what gets book written. I want to know that again, to feel that again. To know in my heart it is ok to nurture my creativity.
