Going Back to College: Step 1!
I’m going back to school! in January. I’m entering a post-baccalaureate program that will allow me to enhance my degree (BS in business administration) with the specific courses I need to get into the grad program I want. My prior physics course work is so old (I started college in 1989) I most likely will have to take and/or test out of most of the requirements to get a physics undergrad degree before I qualify for entry into a grad program, but that’s ok.
My goal is to get a doctorate in physics and do research, teach college level for a while. I have kept up somewhat sporadically in the field but there is so much going on now that I was not aware of…there are so many opportunities, especially in robotics, semi-conduction, biophysics, optics, etc. It’s really exciting, I am looking forward to jumping in. my youngest baby T-bop is now 11, so I figure by the time I’m done with the doctorate all the kids will be done with school, out of the house.
This was step one. I went to the university to apply, talk to admissions reps, and take a tour of the school. A lot has changed since I last attended Cleveland State….they’ve torn down a major building and added onto others, just revamped the school. it’s awesome
Work-wise I can change to part-time, currently I work 4 10hr days during the week. and then weekends I do my bookstore, which is great for studying time also once I’m back in school, during slow times.
This is the bookstore, I actually had S-bop here in 1994. I went into early labor, went into the bookstore for help, and out he came! moments later. Then we got rushed to the hospital. I declined to be interviewed by the news, but they did write about it in one of the student papers
This empty spot used to be a huge building, University Center. it housed the Student Union and the lower half of it was called The Cage. Part of the ceiling and back wall was all windows, it was really nice. Mercury Man and I met in this building, and we used to hang out here with our friends. Mercury Man was a photographer for a few years for one of the student newspapers, the Vindicator, which shared an office with the other paper, the Cauldron in this building. We were down there all the time. Big part of our history as young college students…now it’s gone.
I used to ride the train and buses all the time to school when I lived in the city. Now living in a suburb I don’t get much chance, as the rapid doesn’t come out our way. This was nice, it bought back so many memories. The trains haven’t changed at all but now there are these new double-buses.
